Why So Special?

Jesus. What is so special about him, considering that there have been many innocent people who have been seriously mistreated, even to death?

All injustice is wrong. All injustice starts from the human heart when it is swayed by corrupt desires and loveless selfishness.

As we learn to give in to these selfish desires we begin to stray from the path that the living God has revealed to us.

Love your neighbour as yourself.

Be a blessing to others.

Injustice exists. Each act of injustice will one day be judged. The greatest, though, is the lie that caused us to rebel, which took away our eternal life – that moment in the garden at the beginning of time. That act of deception will also be judged. But the fallout of that rebellion will be (completely) and has been (eternally) corrected. We can receive eternal life once more.

One day, there will be no more suffering, no more tears and no more sorrow. Jesus will judge all injustice. But he also is the one who came to correct the ultimate injustice. He paved the way for us to be able to have eternal life again. He destroyed the power of death and overcame the grip of sin and the law.

Because of our sin and the fall of mankind into darkness, we deserve death. This is because we have all strayed. We have all gone our own way and rejected the path that God has revealed to us. We have relied on our own way to life and not trusted in the way to life that God provides.

So, why is Jesus so special? Why all the attention we Christians seem to give to him, despite the many other innocent people who die or are brutally mistreated?

Jesus is God, the eternal Son of God. He created the world. He didn’t have to come to earth to become one of us, but was compelled to come to earth, in order to live the human life and to defeat death and injustice once and for all. It was the will of the Father, and he obeyed. He humbled himself. He gave up his heavenly life to live this earthly life. But he lived it perfectly. In doing so, he was able to give his life as a sacrifice and pay for the sins of the fallen people. In doing so, he gained the highest honour, and is now risen and seated at the right hand of the Father. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Those who believe in him in faith and follow him for life are those who enter into the eternal rest and life paid for by the sacrifice of the Son, Jesus Christ.

All the main points mentioned here are truths spoken of in the Bible, the written word of God. Jesus Christ is the living, breathing, existing Word of God. His life is the living out of this truth, God’s Word.

Jesus isn’t any more special than anyone else just because he died as an innocent. He is special because he is the only one of us to overcome death and injustice once and for all through his life and death and resurrection. This is a global issue. This is of universal significance. His life and death overcame the ultimate problem of all of human history – a history that will soon come to an end.

It will be the end of death and injustice and the beginning of eternal life and righteousness for all those who have become part of the family of God through faith in the Everlasting Son, Jesus Christ. This is the essence of eternal hope.

Will you believe in him and follow him for life?

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
